Women

Senior Women's football first arrived at Morningside in 2003 as the Morningside Wildcats, the team entered the competition and was very successful straight out the gate, winning the premiership in their debut season. They were back in 2004 for with a Grand final appearance but went down to Surfers Paradise however they went on to win the flag in 2005 and again in 2011 before the Wildcats team disbanded and women’s football left Morningside for a short hiatus.

The group reformed in 2018 as the Morningside Panthers and went on to win the QFAW Div2 Competition in their first season back. They were promoted in 2019 to the QFAW Div1 Competition and had a solid season making finals. The 2020 season saw the club enter an additional Div 2 side into the competition bringing more women into the club and allowing 2021 to be a season of growth. With teams again making the prelim finals.

In 2022 there was a league restructure allowing the women to field a seniors Team and a Reserves team, this meant the team could now travel together and that unity saw both teams making the finals. The Seniors team getting knock out in a very close elimination final and the Reserve team securing an epic win to take home the Premiership Flag.

In 2021 & 2022 the club won the Under 17 Women's Premiership back-to-back, this brought with it an impressive group of young players to the Women’s program who are the first to come through the youth girls program, further cementing the fact that the club now has a very strong female pathway.

Wheelchair Football continues to grow in Queensland and the Morningside region with the introduction of Morningside Panthers first Wheelchair side in 2023. The Queensland Wheelchair Football League (QWFL) is a vibrant sporting community, offering a unique and inclusive platform for individuals with disabilities to engage in competitive football. Established to promote physical activity, teamwork, and social inclusion, the QWFL showcases the resilience and talent of its participants. Players of varying abilities come together to compete in an annual competition, with the MAFC side being the competitions inaugural premiers for 2023.  This league not only fosters a sense of camaraderie and healthy competition but also challenges societal perceptions of disability. It serves as a shining example of how sports can break barriers and empower individuals to excel on the field of play.

Just as the Seniors have been a traditionally strong club, the Morningside Juniors have a long history of sustained high performance in its youth age groups, but it’s true strength is in its broader Junior community.

Morningside JAFC is the largest junior club in Queensland, with strong ties to local schools and the local community. Playing a role of host venue to many school football teams and welcoming a host of athletes each year.

The last few years has seen the club steadily build on its junior and youth girls participation levels through excellent development programs and is proud of the role it as played in growing the competition for girls in SEQ.

The Panthers identity is alive and well in our junior and youth players, with all embracing the pride and history of the RED, WHITE & BLACK, with many premierships having been played in or won across all age groups in both the Youth boys and girls competitions.

Morningside Juniors has been extremely successful in developing football talent; the most noted successes are Michael Voss (Brisbane Lions Brownlow Medalist & Premiership Captain). In most years Morningside will have several players playing with AFL teams across the country including more recent alumni Ben Keyes, Keidean Coleman & Blake Coleman.

In local football we regularly produce many Junior Qld State players. Morningside players continue to be well represented in Brisbane regional representative teams and Lion Academy teams across both female and male playing groups. We are extremely proud of the attitude of the Morningside players in these teams and they epitomise the dedication and discipline we are trying to instil into our young players as they tackle life in general and also their football ambitions.

A Strong Record with Player Development

Morningside Panthers continues to deliver outstanding junior and community programs including Auskick, Junior and Youth team development, school visitations and skills programs. We continue to produce quality young Queensland players to participate in tge AFL & AWFL competitions. We have a number of former players who have been contracted with AFL & AWFL teams and in excess of 40 players since club inception. Our most famous son being AFL legend, Browlow Medalist and triple-premiership winning Brisbane Lions captain, Michael Voss.

Outside the Locker Room

Morningside Panthers partner with Outside The Locker Room a program for players involved in sporting clubs, focusing on education and support in relation to their daily challenges. Focusing on areas such as mental health, drugs, alcohol, gambling and domestic violence our program educates and brings awareness to these topics. This is a one-of-a-kind program for local clubs to have their players mentored.
