MATCH REPORT: BROADBEACH V MAFC

The weekend saw us take on top of the ladder leaders Broadbeach cats in a clash. The result was not to be for the boys with outside forces adding to an already difficult task. The boys regroup for their clash against Labrador Tigers this Saturday. Special note from Seniors coach Clint Watts below as well.

Seniors :

A 50pt loss is still a 50pt loss but If we gauge our playing group on areas we wanted to work on then yesterday was a step in the right direction. Our application to key areas lead by our tackle pressure was encouraging and that has to be our expectation every time we play. We regroup for Labrador at home this week.

Reserves :

We fielded a very young side for the game against Broadbeach and once again we started brightly. We let the opposition get away from us late in the first quarter and then rebounded with a strong second quarter with good offensive and defensive play. The side needs to work through how we react more quickly when the opposition gains momentum. Injuries took their toll later in the game but we continued the effort to the end. Coaches are very proud of how the team stuck to the task.

Colts :

What saw a challenging week for the club with player availability the colts had to opportunity to play up some of our U16’s talent. Although the outcome on the scoreboard was not what we were hoping for, we did discover a determined and Panther spirited group of young men. The ball movement in most periods of the game was first class. We controlled the ball much better than the opposition only to be let down with some slight decision-making errors allowing them to score through turnovers. There is a lot to like about this group. We look forward to being 3 from 3 after next week against Labrador at home.

Note from Clint Watts on the day :

As senior coach I couldn't be more proud of our coaching and player group across colts, reserves and seniors this week. For various circumstances, late on Friday we were unsure if we would field a colts team. Thanks to the flexibility of our U16's group we managed to get a team on the park.

Even better for our club now and into the future, we have identified another group of fine young men that we know will take our club into the future and certainly showed they can play at the level.

A special mention to our colts coach Craig Edwards, he was at Broadbeach at 7am to prepare his team for battle, then trusted his assistant coaches to run the team while he dressed in the pink to be the colts runner for the day, hours later Craig was running water for the seniors. Outstanding effort.
