Our Weekly Round Up: Mabel's Round July 9th

The Morningside Panthers and Hawthorne Garage are proud to host Mabel's Round at Jack Esplen Oval in support of the Mabel Olive Airi Foundation.

The Mabel Olive Airi Foundation has been created to honour the life of Mabel Olive Airi Goya, who pas

sed away as a result of pneumococcal meningitis on the 22nd of September, 2021.

She was healthy, fully vaccinated, and just 6.5 months old. The foundations objective is to raise awareness of this devastating disease and to raise funds to help others. As Mabel’s mum Carly says "we still cannot believe this happened to our beautiful daughter. She was joy, she was sunshine, and she didn't deserve this."

The Foundation is how we tell the world Mabel’s story. This is how Mabel lives on. The charity that the Foundation fundraisers for are:

Meningitis Centre Australia - working to defeat meningitis through awareness, education and community support.

Come support this great cause on Saturday 9th of July as the boys take to the field at HOME in support of Mabel against Aspley Hornets.

SENIORS EDGE OUT SHERWOOD AWAY FROM HOME!

Seniors.

It was another great win for the senior boys over the weekend defeating the home side by 9 points in the end. It was great to see the boys win every QTR showing great resilience and fortitude to get the job done over their opponents away from home. Best on Ground included; Kelly Castle, Lachlan Dignan, O’Neill Moncrieff, Max McDonald, Brad Hodge, Nathan Colenso. The boys look forward to continuing the good form against Aspley at home on Saturday the 9th of July. Reserves:

The team took on Sherwood at Sherwood on Friday night in fairly ordinary conditions. We did not get the result we were looking for, going down by 2 points. Generally we played well in the conditions and in some aspects deserved to win but we lost focus for small amounts of time that gave the opposition the chances to kick a winning score. Could not fault the intent and attitude we had for most of the game with some robust defensive work. Once again, we continue to search for a good level of consistency. Colts: The Colts unfortunately fell short against a up and coming Sherwood team away from home over the weekend. In a low scoring affair the Magpies were able to grind out a win against our boys. The colts will be looking to bounce back quickly with their next match coming up against a strong Aspley Hornets side this Saturday.

A huge congratulations to Gracie Roy and Eleanor Tu'itahi who were selected in the final South Queensland Team to play NQ this weekend.

An incredible achievement by both girls being recognised for their talent, really paving the way for where we are going as a club with our female program. Unfortunately South Queensland couldn’t get the win in muddy conditions however, the girls did the Sider Family proud.
